Big Bang-Love Song M/V
To be very honest, I’m a little confused about the exact concept of this M/V. But what’s undeniable is I like the B/W concept. The cameras are a little too ‘flighty’ for my liking but if the idea is to portray the transient and perhaps elusive nature of love then maybe. Really like Dae Sung’s vocals in this song. I’m glad that we are getting more of him in Big Bang’s songs.

Questioning the Validity of arguments presented for Big Bang vs KBS
To be fair, I would state that I’m a fan of Big Bang. They are one of the best performers on stage. So when I read the news about Big Bang dropping out of MuBank 24 hrs before the recording, I was a little upset with YGE and Big Bang and KBS, almost on equal measures.
YGE is a company I respect a lot. If I want to develop my talents as an artiste, I would sign under YGE. But if they really did what they did, like withdrawing 24 hrs before the recording, I would say the respect went down a notch. However, when I read the reasons behind WHY Big Bang was assumed not to have attended MuBank, I start to have doubts.
1. Big Bang pulled out because they saw that they were not the nominees for K-Chart. Big Bang already scored triple crown on MuBank. I’m not sure if the rules for Mutizen Award (Inkigayo) works here, but if it does, after this, they will not be nominated again. I’m sure Big Bang and YGE understood that. Not to mention, YGE announced they will have a short break before coming back with a Special Edition album. So theoretically, they stopped their promotions for Tonight last week(?).
2. Official release of the new tracks is 8 April which is the day that Music Bank is recorded. So this recording they are talking about, is it for this week or for next week? If it’s for this week, it was already announced previously that the first COMEBACK stage for the new tracks would be Inkigayo.
3. The hoo-ha about them demanding a 10-min Comeback stage, with 2 title tracks was deemed TOO MUCH but I just watched Music Bank repeat from last week and CN BLUE had a 3-song stage.
(Note: Author has no grudge against CN BLUE having a 3-song stage but I was just using it as an example to show the discrepancy in how Music Bank handles artistes in general)
4. The ‘Comeback stage’ that Music Bank gave to Big Bang after much compromise was a piece of crap. It felt like Music Bank was compelled to let Big Bang perform since they won K-Chart even WITHOUT being on the show.
To be very honest, if KBS is trying to make Big Bang look bad, and if we were to look at the reasons put forward by industry representatives, then they have managed to achieve their goal. HOWEVER, if one were to look a little closer at the dynamics and to use a more logical mind to evaluate what is happening, maybe we won’t be so quick to draw conclusions.
YGE’s stand is always clear, they would not tire their artistes, they would not allow their artistes to be mistreated. I believe that on some levels, KBS was still butt-hurt about YGE refusing to send in any of their artistes for the year-end music festival. People started questioning the validity of K-Chart, how they get their results, etc.
This time round, KBS beat YGE in releasing a statement for Big Bang’s sudden pull-out. Right now, no matter what YGE says, they would be seen as ‘giving excuses’. So instead of focusing on the negativity, YGE went on to announce Big Bang signing another 5-year contract with YGE, breaking the Idol 5-year Curse. The family relationship between artiste-company was once again emphasised. Very subtly, or maybe NOT, what they are trying to say, the world can be in discord, but within the gorgeous building that is YGE, we are living in harmony and you, negative forces cannot get to us.
I would wait to see how this drama unfolds. Whether YGE or Big Bang goes on Music Bank seriously is not my concern. My concern is that I get to see Big Bang. One less stage=more time to rest and focus on other stages, not a loss to me.
Can’t wait for the tracks to be released tonight!!!!

Why 2AM’s remake of Fukuyama Masaharu’s ‘Beloved’ is the best of the remake so far
I think I understand now why Fukuyama Masaharu picked out 2AM’s remake of ‘Beloved’ and gave it high praise and that they managed to add a dramatic edge to it. I have listened to all the remakes released thus far and seriously, bias or not, 2AM’s ‘The Greatest Love’ really has that edge. I think because 2AM tends to tell a story when they sing. The roles in the group is very clearly defined: Jin Woon and Seul Ong would be the ones to start/introduce the story and then it will build up towards the climax which is usually sung by Jo Kwon and Chang Min. It doesn’t mean that Jin Woon and Seul Ong are not as good at expressing themselves but without the modulation in tone, it’s very difficult to have layers in the song.
To be honest, ‘The Greatest Love’ lyrics are repetitive. Of course there are differences here and there but generally if you read the Korean lyrics and English translation, they do repeat themselves. Yet the first part done by Jin Woon and Seul Ong, when compared to Kwon and Chang Min’s is markedly different. I was lamenting a little about the fact that I didn’t get to hear much of their harmonization in this song.
You know what is truly amazing about this song and the way they have done it? It can be seen as 4 men telling a story, 2 pair of duos telling each other their stories or 4 individuals who had had similar stories and then their stories kind of interlocked with each other. Because we heard 4 distinct voices in this song, we can actually imagine that happening. So if I were to shoot an MV for this song, there’s so many way to express this song and that’s probably why Fukuyama said that they have managed to make it dramatic. A song, is basically a story with a melody. This is especially true for ballads. And 2AM pulls this off every single time, with every single song they sing.
